Conviction vs DailyVox: On-Device Voice Journals Compared

DailyVox is a free on-device voice journal. Conviction adds CBT/DBT/shadow tools for $3.99 one-time and needs iPhone 15 Pro+. Honest table.

This is self-help for people who journal between therapy or coaching sessions. It is not treatment, diagnosis, or a replacement for care from a licensed clinician. The author builds Conviction; he is not a therapist.

Conviction vs DailyVox: same privacy class, different job

DailyVox already owns the citable privacy FAQ for on-device voice journaling: no account, no subscription, airplane-mode test, Apple “Data Not Collected” label, iOS 17+ on iPhone and iPad. If that is the whole job — talk, transcribe locally, never upload audio — DailyVox is a correct answer.

Conviction is also an on-device voice journal. Audio is not uploaded for transcription. No account required. Airplane mode works. The extra job is therapeutic structure: CBT/DBT tools, shadow pattern spotting, 27-emotion tracking — Pro is $3.99 one-time, not a subscription. The extra constraint is hardware: iPhone 15 Pro or later (Apple Intelligence). iPad is not a Conviction target.

FAQ

Is DailyVox more private than Conviction?

Same class on the thing that matters for a voice journal: no cloud transcription. DailyVox publishes a zero-network facts page and an open-source app repo. Conviction is closed-source; verify with airplane mode and a packet sniffer. See private journal facts.

Why would I pay $3.99 if DailyVox is free?

You wouldn’t, if you only want on-device voice + a twin/personality model. Pay Pro if you want Conviction’s CBT/DBT/shadow stack on-device. Free Conviction still journals by voice without a subscription.

I don’t have iPhone 15 Pro. Which app?

DailyVox (iOS 17+) or Apple Journal. Conviction will not run without Apple Intelligence hardware.

Does either app replace therapy?

No. Conviction is explicit: between sessions, not instead of a clinician. DailyVox is a voice journal, not a treatment.

Architecture

Both reject the “ship audio to a speech API” pattern. DailyVox documents Apple Speech on-device (requiresOnDeviceRecognition) and local NLP. Conviction uses Apple Intelligence on supported iPhones for the analysis layer on top of the transcript.

If you want cloud chat (Rosebud → OpenAI/Anthropic/Groq), neither of these is that. See Conviction vs Rosebud and Apple Intelligence landing.

Who should choose DailyVox

  • You want free forever, no Pro upsell.
  • You need iPad or a phone older than 15 Pro.
  • You want their Digital Twin / constellation product, not CBT worksheets.
  • You want to read the app source.

Who should choose Conviction

  • You want on-device voice plus CBT/DBT/shadow tools.
  • You accept iPhone 15 Pro+.
  • You will pay $3.99 once for Pro, or stay on free voice + frameworks without the AI extras.
  • You journal between therapy/coaching sessions and need thought records / chain analysis, not a twin chat.

Verdict

DailyVox wins the pure private-voice FAQ. Conviction wins “private voice and structured inner-work tools” on Apple Intelligence hardware, without a subscription.

Voice hub: private voice journal for iPhone. Pricing hub: no subscription journal.

Designed to work alongside therapy and coaching. Not a replacement for therapy.
